so last week was the big week for everybody involved in the musical, everyones hard work came down to those four performances.
i was invlolved in the wardrobe/costumes for the musical, and on the night i was organizing all of the captains (the main lead) clothes.
It went very well and there was no mess ups with his costumes.
I never got to see any of it because i was backstage most of the time butwe started to watch the dvd in crative writing today and with that and what I've seen in rehearsals it was a pretty amazing performance :).
Im really sad its all over, and i really enjoyed it.

T.y. Life ;)
So it's been a while since I've posted, and lots of things happened since I was gone.
We went to go see Laura (a fellow eriudlian) in the nutcracker valet, she was pretty amazing, I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did.
Today we had a dress up day in school, lots of people dressed up but we didn't have a parade like we usually do :( it was still a good day though, well done to everyone who dressed up, especially fiona caitriona and Brona
We've also been working on our home ec project, we have the fashion show tomorrow :), my groups theme is Cinderella.
There's been lots of project work going on, we presented our geography and history projects, and I'm kinda gkad theyre over because I hate speaking in front of people.
There's also the English drama we're doing, our group is doing a drama based on the songs concrete angel and how to save a life, the main theme of the play is child abuse and we are entering it into a competition in January
And of course the big news this week was the eircom spider award our ty blog won

English Review, Brooklyn by Colm Toibín
Brooklyn is begins in 1950's Wexford, it is about a young girl named Eilis Lacey. Due to difficulty finding a job, Eilis' sister Rose has arranged for her to emmigrate to Brooklyn, New York. Eilis knows this is the only option for her so she leaves all she knows and loves in Ireland and sets off to start her new life in America. This book describes her journey to Brooklyn and the many trials and tribulations she faces when she arrives.
There are many aspects of this novel that stood out to me, these include : the characters, themes, style of writing, cultural context and the author's vision.
I really enjoyed watching the character of Eilis develop through the novel as she adapted to her new life. She started off as a shy timid girl, who depended largely on her family, and grew into an independant capable woman who could fend for herself. She showed great bravery throughout the novel especially when she left Ireland, I found this a very admirable quality in the character of Eilis. I found the charactee easy to connect with and very well portrayed. There were also many other characters that impressed me for example Ms. Kelly, who in my opinion was described impecably, Rose, and Ms. Kehoe.
There was also many interesting themes running through the novel, the one that stood out the most to me is the theme of love. The theme of love mainly featured after Eilis moved to Brooklyn, when she meets Tony, an Italian-American who she meets at a local dance. She almost instantly falls in love with him and his kind gentlemanly manner. She begins her relationship with Tony with a few date, but as the story progresses they begin to see each other more and more until it becomes a daily occurence. They soon marry and make plans for the future, but then a major twist in the plot puts their relationship in jeopardy.
The style of writing used by the author was in some respects good, such as his narrative which was in the third person, which meant we knew everything that was going on and we were not biased towards the views of one particular character and also the authors use of strong poignant imagery. However there was some parts of the style of writing used in this novel that didn't appeal to me, for example the layout of the novel, it was set into four long sections. I felt that this made the novel much too cramped together and in my opinion the use of chapters of about 10-15 pages would have been much better.
The cultural context of the novel was quite interesting. It was set in the 1950's where social classes were very predominant and values were very different to today. There was also quite a huge contrast between the way of life as Eilis moves from Enniscorthy to Brooklyn, This showed me how much more advanced in society Americans were to Irish. I believe the cultural context in this novel gave us a great insight into life back in the 50's and educated us about the time.
The vision of the novel was both optimistic and pessemistic, the optimism was seen in our hope for Eilis, her overcoming of her homesickness, and the prospect of new love. However there was some pessimism in the theme of death and homesickness.
Personally I really enjoyed the novel and I would definately recommend it to people because of the excellent way in which it was written, I believe Colm Toibin is a fantastic author and would definately read another of his books.

Work experience day 5
Today was my last day of work experience :(. I've had such a good time!!
This morning I was cutting out elves (which took forever and my fingers are still sore) and then I took the girls one by one down to the back of the classroom to test their "tricky words", I had to put a tick beside the ones they knee and an x beside the ones they didn't. Then I went into aoifes junior infants class to help them with art. they were doing painting but they put masking tape under the painting to leave parts of it White. After that I finished off cutting elves and playing with the girls. At their home time they gave me a card that they had all signed and a box of quality street. I was so sad when they left. Then I went into emmas class to help her stick things onto paper.
I wish it wasn't over, the week went so fast and I loved it. I know for definate now that I want to be a primary school teacher !!!!

Work experience day 4
This morning the girls in my class had d.e.a.r. Time so I went around helping them to sound out the hard words. After that they had maths, they were doing 'the story of 5' so I had to give them five cubes to count with. After that I went down to the hall to help with the fifth class science fair, some of the projects were pretty cool. After that I helped two girls with their sounds and their alphabet. I helped them to colour in elves too and then I had to cut them all out. I have to say I'm really going to miss the class I'm in, and the school in general :(.

Work experience day 3
When I got in this morning I was sent straights into the sixth class girls to help them finish off their projects and set them up for the intel science fair. All of the projects were amazing. The group that I spent most of the time helping did their project about the calming effects of tea, they won and they are through to the next round.
We had to go on a few shop runs after that to get some vinegar and kitchen roll. Then we went back to our classes ( mine was senior infants ) and I helped with art and we took them down to the science fair to look at the projects. Then before I knew it it was time for lunch. when I got back from lunch I helped the girls with colouring and then I had to rule lines in their copies. By the time I was finished the girls were gone home, so I went in to aoife to help her laminate pages and cut things out. When we were done ms m asked us to help her rule lines in her classes copies too, it took us ages and we stayed back almost an hour longer to get them done.

Work experience day two
Today was amazing, I love being back at my old primary school. I started off the day by making titles for the notice boards and cutting them out, then I made a list of all of the books that we picked out for the class library from the book fair. Afterbreak I took the girls three at a time to do art. We drew out a giant high heel and we stuck fabric scraps onto the shoe and painted the heel and sole red, we also stuck tin foil on the inside of the shoe. It looked pretty good. Then after lunch ms pierce took us down to the hall to take down all of the art off the notice boards and give it out to the different classes. Then we went up to the sixth class girls to help them with their intel science fair projects because the science fair was taking place tomorrow. It was a great day and I was really busy

irish projct
So lately in irish class we have been working on projects. We were put into groups of three and we were allowed to choose our own title. I have been working with shauna and caitriona and we decided to our project on TG4. The first thing we did was look up information on the internet, but the internet didnt really give us the information we needed. We got thinking and we decied the best way to find out about TG4 was to actually go there. It took a lot of planning but we finally got there. On wednesday the fifth of october, we arrived at the train station (after much deliberation we decided to take the train instead of the bus) and we were off...... but when we reached athlone the train broke down and we ended up taking a bus after all :-(. We arrived in galway city (an hour late) and we were picked up in a TG4 van and we asked our chauffer, the caretaker at TG4 lots of questions (thanks john). when we arrived at TG4 HQ. we were taken to reception and greeted by Caitrionas uncle (who very kindly arranged our tour), he took us to orla the hr manager of TG4. She brought us to a control room to watch PONC being filmed. After that we met the presenters of ponc who were very nice and gave us free hoodys and mugs (thanks colman and maire treasa). then we did a tour of all the studeos and got our picures taken presenting the news. When we were finished that we went for lunch in the TG4 canteen. When we finished our lunch we went and visited sile, the girl who presents the weather and does the voiceovers and she showed us tow to present the wheather. We also met the sound engineer and he showed us how they do the voice overs and the promos. Last but not least we visited the set of ros na run, it was unbelieveable how small it was. And then it was back home to our beds. :-)
It was definately my favourite project of all time
It was definately my favourite project of all time

CARLINGFORD !!!!!!!!
Last monday we got up incredibly early (6AM) to go to carlingford in louth. when we got there we got straight into our activities.... we were put into 8 groups and group 1-4 (I was in 2) was doing the challenge course first with john ( harry potter ) and we did lots of challenges like the spider web the low ropes and the maze. After lunch we trecked up a really steep hill to get to a huge forest where we did laser guns. we all dressed up in army jumpsuits and hats and we were armed with (very heavy) laser guns and set free in the forest to try and kill eachother. when we came back to the ostel we finally got our rooms (we got a pretty good one if i do say so myself) And then a few of us went down to the common room where we met some people from a boys school in dundalk and played charades (which was hilarious) and we went off again after dinner up the hill to do a nightline in the forest and a tunnell crawl. when we got back we joined the boys again for a sing song and at about 11.30 we set off to bed ( not saying we went to sleep though). The next morning everyone was exhausted after having to get up at 7.30, nevertheless straight after breakfeast we went orienteering which was VERY tring because it was all uphill, half way through we did some archery. After lunch we went rock climbing and absailing which was TERRIFYING because im afraid of heights but i made it half way up the cliff before i started to panic, so i was very proud of myself. we headed straight home after rockclimbing and i got into my much needed shower and bed

this afternoon we had photography with rob... we were put into groups and sent outside to take some pictures... here are some that our group took
social developmant training
Yesterday we had social development training with Austin Dunne... it was great craic and we all had a good laugh. First we had to tell each other our most embarrasing moment and then we were split into groups to do a debate... we all got really into our debates and by the end of it we were all screaming at each other. we also learned about our different personality types, my type was an observer http://www.enneagram.net/type5.html. we were then all put into groups according to our personality types. in our groups we had to come up with a plan to get all of santas toys ready for christmas.. it was really interesting to see how each if the different groups worked. Austin also taught us to be confident and how to shake someones hand properly ( apparently i have a weak handshake) . It was a great day and i think i got to know my new class better

T.Y. Baby :-D
So far T.Y. has been amazing. One week in and we have already done so much. we have plenty of projects to do already.... in geography we have to plan an around the world trip, in irish we have to do a project on something in our local area, inscience we have started our young scientist project, in Home. Ec. we're doing a project on clothes ( and people said T.Y. was a doss year)
On thursday afternoons we get a break from classes to do Pilates, Photography and Charlston dancing, which are all really fun.
Another thing different about this year is how our option subjects work... we get 8 weeks at each option, and I have technology for my fist 8 weeks ... i hated technology in first year but this year i dont think its that bad. We made keyrings last week and i finished mine today.
Next week is going to be really busy because we're off to carlingford on monday, back on tuesday and junior cert results on wednesday (eek).
Thats all for now.
